Key 2025 HMRC Deadlines

31 January 2025 – Self Assessment Tax Return Due

Applies to: Self-employed individuals, landlords, company directors, and others required to complete a Self Assessment.

  • Online tax return for 2023/24 must be submitted

  • Any outstanding tax from 2023/24 must be paid

  • First payment on account for 2024/25 also due (if applicable)

Late filing results in an automatic £100 fine, even if no tax is owed.

5 April 2025 – End of the 2024/25 Tax Year

Applies to: Everyone

  • Last day to use your annual tax allowances (ISA, pension, capital gains)

  • Final opportunity for tax planning in the current tax year

6 April 2025 – Start of the 2025/26 Tax Year

Applies to: Everyone

  • Reset of annual allowances (Personal Allowance, ISAs, etc.)

  • New tax bands and thresholds may take effect

19 April 2025 – PAYE Month 12 Deadline

Applies to: Employers

  • Final submission of 2024/25 payroll to HMRC under Real Time Information (RTI)

  • Final payment of PAYE and National Insurance due for the tax year

31 May 2025 – P60 Distribution Deadline

Applies to: Employers

  • Provide P60 forms to all employees employed as of 5 April 2025

6 July 2025 – P11D and Benefits Reporting Deadline

Applies to: Employers who provide benefits in kind (e.g. company cars, health insurance)

  • Submit P11D forms to HMRC

  • Provide copies to employees

  • Submit P11D(b) and pay Class 1A NIC

31 July 2025 – Second Payment on Account Due

Applies to: Self-employed and those making payments on account

  • Second instalment for 2024/25 tax due

5 October 2025 – Register for Self Assessment

Applies to: New self-employed individuals or those with untaxed income

  • Must register with HMRC if you earned untaxed income in 2024/25 and haven’t already registered

31 October 2025 – Paper Tax Return Deadline

Applies to: Those choosing to file by paper

  • Submit paper Self Assessment tax return for 2024/25

  • Online filing deadline remains 31 January 2026
